“Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.”— Buddha (via kingofspills) (via whatson) i don’t get it. what does this even mean? i’m being very serious. i don’t know (but admittedly should look up) the context of this quote. it sounds to me like, “do whatever you want. don’t let anyone stop you from doing so.” i honestly don’t mean to offend anyone, this just makes no sense to me. if i get to do what i want, from what do i need saving?
No. It doesn’t mean “do whatever, whenever”. It’s more along the lines of something I’ve been thinking about recently. It’s that you, yourself, are responsible for yourself. Just as you shouldn’t let other’s opinions affect you, you don’t let others’ ideas influence what your salvation is. It’s like, if you define yourself off what other people think, you are at the mercy of those people. If you decide for yourself what you are, you are in full control, and have no one to answer to but yourself.
